All coaches, team managers and other volunteers that may be in closed quarters with players (locker room) are required to have a background screening performed through policies enacted by USA Hockey and New York State Amateur Hockey Association (NYSAHA). In addition to a background screening, all coaches, team managers and board members are required to take the USA Hockey SafeSport training, a free online course designed exclusively for USA Hockey members. While not a requirement, this course is recommended for volunteers and parents. SafeSport training will help make OYHA's programs safer through a shared understanding and definition of misconduct and abuses found in youth sports. This course features practical advice for recognizing and preventing these abuses and misconducts.
